I don't know about you guys, but it seems like we have a birthday party almost every weekend these days. Does anyone else cringe each time you have to buy another $4 gift bag and another $4 birthday card?? Are you part of the gift bag hoarders club and insist on saving and reusing every gift bag that you possibly can? Here's a fun and thrifty idea for when you run out of those recycled gift bags and want to do something else cost effective with a more personal touch.

The next time a birthday party is coming up have your child "make the card"! Whether it is your 2yr old scribbling, your 4 year old practicing his letters, or your 6 year old working on sentences, it's such a fun activity and way to personalize the gift. When we're really feeling creative we add some stickers or stamps and even decorate the bag! I like to ask my oldest what color he thinks his friend would like the best and we mix and match colors for fun!
These plain, solid bags don't have to look boring either. White tissue paper always looks great with solid colors or you can grab some colored tissue paper to continue the mix and match themes. Curly ribbon can be added onto the handle to fancy it up a bit as well. I like to just keep a stash of these items so when I'm rushing last minute to try to get to another birthday party I have these things ready to go!
Sometimes we just don't have the time for the decorating or my kids aren't in the mood. I like to keep some of these little tags on hand to just write the standard "To and From" note.
This is definitely one "hack" that I have loved doing to save time (and a little money) and it has been so much fun to watch how my kids have become more creative with the activity as well.
